Growing up from the age of 13 in a single parent family, I learned to be frugal through my mother.

She would scour bargain corners in local supermarkets, something that she passed onto me. We would also shop at B & M or Home Bargains, which to me was as good as Boots, because you would get cosmetic products at a cut off price.

Moving to Germany in 2015, I realised the value of Kaufland or HIT Markt, where a weekly shop would cost me between €20-30. When COVID came there was a nationwide lockdown until February and non essential shops were closed, yet when it came to the basics, I would either buy own brand shampoo/good product, as it really was just as good. Someone also mentioned Pfand - the giving back of bottles and reclaming the deposit. It saved me so much money on my shopping sometimes, regardless of how much it was, it made such a difference.

Coming back to Britain 5 weeks ago, I'm on Universal Credit until I start work next week. I've been yellow/red stickering where I can, I do tend to go when I know I'll get a good bargain (yesterday and the day before I went to ALDI and got stirfry for 30% off/garlic bread at 32p, and sweet chilli sauce, then some crumpets which I'll have for breakfast with my partner who I'm visiting)

For clothes I tend to avoid H & M now, unless they have a sale. Primark is my go to for bras etc. Two days ago I bought a 3 pack of bras which worked out to be cheaper. The clothes sections of supermarkets are also good, but I find they can be pricey.

Reading was always a luxury for me (despite doing a degree) so I tried to buy my books second hand for uni, which really helped.

I also try to take advantage of discounts, or make my coffee at home, to save myself money.

Anyway, I think that is enough for now, my brain is a bit puddled from writing 🤣
