Hello everyone

I'm kind of confused right now regarding something's.

My mother passed earlier this month due to Cancer. After spending large amounts of times in the hospital getting treatments, etc. Her insurance covered nearly all of it, me and my father have gotten a handful of bills in the mail from the hospital. However, my parents were awful with money and there is no way my dad is going to be able to afford to pay the left overs.

My real question is he, or are we responsible for it? They only lived In a small condo which they owned and do not have anything of value short of TVs, their cellphones and cars. She had no will or anything either.

I've read that the estate is responsible to pay out to debtors, but as far as I'm aware, since she had no will and therefore no estate executor there's no one to pay them anything, since she had no will she died "intestate" so the laws in NJ would stipulate how it's given to her family members.

Would we be forced to use her small life nsurance payout to them even though me and my dad are the beneficiaries.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding anything, I'm kind of overwhelmed and have no idea what I'm doing. I can't imagine that we'd have to sell her belongings to cover hospital debts, especially when those belongings are passed on to my father
