In around 2012, I (32F) bought a house with my ex (47M). We lived together for over a year, relationship was abusive and cops were involved. I had to leave after he intended to shoot me while I slept. I moved out so he would not know where I lived. During the time we lived together, I paid every bill and my dad put $6k into the kitchen. I do not have receipts any longer. Ex has a new girlfriend who reached out, asking me to call him. He wants to remove my name from the house. The thought of calling him makes me sick, the thought of being in a room with him or arguing over this even more so. What is involved? He must refinance from what I see online. Does he have to buy me out? Can I request such? I’d love to sever ties and get the mortgage off my credit score (after I left the house nearly foreclosed due to him getting 3 months behind on payments and my credit score tanked, I’ve decently recovered it since). The house has also gone up in value from $116k when we bought, to $156k if the internet is to be believed. I do not have the finances for a lawyer.
