tldr; I replaced a broken laptop screen myself instead of buying a new laptop.

My wife accidentally stepped on my laptop and broke the screen. Totally my fault, I mean... who just puts their laptop on the floor? She felt awful about it and I felt a small bit of excitement because I could justify a new one. I spent time researching new laptops and figured that a new MacBook Air, with all the bells and whistles, would run me about $1200 USD. I can afford it, though it's a fair chunk of change.

On a whim, I searched "Replace a Dell Inspiron laptop screen". I had figured that it would be difficult, that I would need special tools, and that it would be expensive. In short, a royal pain in the butt. Surprisingly, it looked like a pretty easy task, that I would need a screwdriver and a guitar pick, and would cost $120 USD. I also had a $200 Amazon gift card from Christmas. So with about 45 minutes of work, I have a repaired laptop and didn't spend $1,2000. Pretty sure that's a win.
