I've been interested in investing for awhile. A few years ago I did one of those, we will give you 5 dollars apps. I signed up and ended making like $25. Then I just kind of quit.

I recently got a salary bump and now have a comfortable amount in savings and now that I feel comfortable being a little frivolous I'd like to start investing. Admittedly the recent news has stirred up my interest.

So I did some research and decided on TD Ameritrade. So I started to sign up and they asked about W9s and other info like SSNs, address, how I wanted my money secured, etc... Is this normal questions that fidelity or others would ask? Are there implications to putting a few dollars into and deciding to quit if I don't like it? It's a lot of sensitive info they require and the tax stuff is basically another language to me.
