Hello all.. Well yesterday someone used my wife's debit card to bill $9.71 from Netflix. I check our account's multiple times each day so at 5:30am this morning I was making calls to dispute the fraudulent charge. After some back and forth I got Netflix to close the account linked to the card, block the card from being used in the future, and they told me that the account opened was under "a girls name" which wasn't my wife's.
After that, I called up Chase to cancel the card and have a new one sent, but they said they needed to talk to my wife who is at work right now in order to cancel the debit card. So I went onto the mobile app and locked her card from there.... But I also thought it was a good idea to lock my debit card too, since I never use it and anytime I've ever been charged for stuff fraudulently, it's been over my debit card.
So, I have a few questions related to this situation.. Should I bother having my wife's card replaced if we plan on keeping it locked forever? My gut tells me that I should, but what are guy's thoughts? Also, can I keep my debit card locked indefinitely through the Chase app, or is it something that gets reset after a set amount of time? And lastly, could I still use my debit account for things like transferring money to acorns/robinhood even though all the cards linked to that account are locked? Thanks for any info on this!
