I work nights, my wife likes to crank the heat in the house. I'm in MN so it gets cold, especially at night. I'm thinking about a smart space heater so I can turn the whole house heating down while I'm at work and she's in bed. That way the entire house isn't been heated to 71f for no reason and she can stay as toasty as she likes all night long.
I'm having a hard time figuring out if this'll save money or not. A smart space heater is going to cost $100. We have a forced air gas furnace, and that'll still need to keep the house warm to some degree even at night, and will remain at it's normal temperature the 3 nights a week I'm actually home. So realistically we're looking into using this setup for about 32 hours a week for about 6 months out of the year.
We live in an older double wide mobile home, so given all that information, is it really worth it?
