I started this job at a small manufacturing place(Call it Co. A) through a friend. I started in October and now the owner wants me to move to Phoenix from Minneapolis. I am 22 and have 1.5 semesters left of undergrad studying finance. I go to a state school online and between an ESA and grants I will have enough to cover the cost of school.
Co. A got a big contract, I don't know their financial dealings, but they are starting a new shop in Phoenix, because a partner in the company lives there. They want me to move there because I can program the robots that we use and have management experience.
The issue I have is that this was originally winter work because I work for a company (Call it Co. B) in the summer (summers only from May 1 to October 1). Currently I live rent free with my dad in Minneapolis and own a beater car, so I have no major outgoing expenses. IF did move to Phoenix it would only be from February till the end of May. Meaning that I would have to find a place to live for myself, girlfriend, and dog. Currently I make $15 an hour and monthly after taxes bring home $1800. At that rate I would be about breaking even on rent alone let alone groceries and cost of living. I'm also worried about my car not being able to make the drive or crapping out while I'm there.
The reason that I am "married" to Co. B is because in the next 2 years I want to buy it or own majority stake in the company. Co. A knows this and says that I can own/operate Co. B in the summers and work for Co. A in the winters.
Whats the best way to approach Co. A about getting rent help and a company vehicle in Phoenix? Any other opinions or advice?
(Girlfriend is full time student online and can take a leave from her job to come with)
