I am just curious if anyone has thoughts on this. My husband has another life insurance policy that lists me as the beneficiary but his mother has recently started demanding that he open a new one - that she would pay for - and list her as the sole beneficiary because she is worried something may happen to him.
We both immediately felt like this was an odd request and it made my husband very uncomfortable. It raised some concerns with us that she may have been thinking she could rely on us financially once she retires - because we are just not seeing how getting money will help her unless she just wasn’t prepared to manage her own finances?
My husband originally said no, but she’s pushing back saying that it’s a minor inconvenience to help her feel secure and now my husband is feeling a bit guilty about it because he doesn’t want to leave his mom high and dry.
While I am trying to stay out of it, I’d still really like to hear other people’s opinions on it (since she said people do this all the time). Is it just us or is this weird? Or does it really not matter since she’s offering to pay for it anyways?
EDIT: I am really glad I asked this because you guys have given me a lot of good info to look into. Many thanks!
