Not actually me, but the large company my friend works for is firing a large portion of their workforce (everyone in certain roles, I believe), for them to then reapply.
There won't be quite as many positions as before, so some people will be out or luck.
But, why this process vs just firing those you don't want?
I'm sure there's a reason, just curious what advantage such a move provides, given the ill will it presumably fosters.
Edit: I'm told they are changing the pay structure as well (presumably in a negative way). But still, why not just "new pay structure. Enjoy". Why go through this process?
