I used to be an avid user of mint.com, but after literally years of issues syncing accounts, issues with currency, and issues with zombie accounts, I finally gave up and asked them to delete my account. Now I am looking for an alternative. I have heard of many alternatives like Personal Capital and YNAB, but struggle to tell just from their websites which one is best suited for what I need.
The most important function for me was the ability to categorize spending. I am pretty good about not over-spending on the whole, but don't really know how much I'm spending in any given category, and have a tendency to "forget" one-off spend. I also really enjoyed the analytics of monthly pie charts and tracking spending categories over time.
I could manually do this in excel with pivot tables, but I am lazy and do not want to do the work of having to import my card statements every month.
Functions I need:
- Auto-import of credit and debit card transactions
- Categorize spend
- Set a budget, and see if I am over/under in certain categories
- Choice to roll over budgets month-after-month or set them to expire monthly
- Analytics related to spend % by category
Nice to have:
- Analytics related to spend over time
- Ability to track investment accounts
- Ability to support more than one currency
Thank you!
