I was 16 going 17 when it happened. I basically got “scammed” out my card and by the time I noticed I was a bit way too late to make a change. They had changed my passwords and email and my phone and my bank just sent me an email but i was a teenager I didn’t check them as much as I should. There was no phone call to my mom or to me explaining what had happened either.

Anyway when we called the bank they had already closed my account as it had been over drafted by thousands. Apparently someone deposited 3 checks adding up to nearly $4,000, and went to the bank 20 minutes away from where my bank actually was and just withdrew it all even though it’s supposed to be capped at 500 max. The max I ever had in my bank account at 16 was 600 or 700 about max. We had explained to them and we had told them what happened and they made my mom and I call 4-6 different departments and tell them.

They said okay and they would check and send it to the claims department and they did. They had sent us mail of my statement saying $0.00 as in how much I owed so adding the $4,000. Long story short, i stopped worrying as it looked as if it was solved but when I went to the bank to ask and do some things they told me we were still in debt to them for nearly $4,000. This was way later, my mom called many times and it always ended on the same story. “The bank sees it as a loss and they didn’t approve the claim” yet they sent the letter. It’s stressing me out because now I’m 18 and I still have this issue and I don’t think I can open another bank account at another bank as they carry their systems until I resolve this. I called and called but nothing and man if I’m just being real $4,000 seems like not much for some people but that’s coming out of my pocket for money I’ve never touched. Seems a bit sus to me.

Any help on what I should do? Even setting up a payment plan would suck immensely. Doing the math I would have to pay $100 a month for 3.3yrs for money that I didn’t clearly have ever. I already have to help with the bills at home.

If anyone knows what to do lmk please & thank you for your time!
