Hello,

I’m 19 and I will be moving out of my house next year and marrying my boyfriend of 4 years. (We will fill out a prenup so don’t worry)

The reason we’re getting married is because our parents make way too much money for us to get money for FAFSA. When we do get married, we both don’t have to pay for tuition and books which is great! Also we love each other and knew that we were going to get married later so why not speed up the process for money?

I know rent for me is going to be half because I’m going to share a room with my boyfriend. But I’m still scared that I won’t have enough money to survive because California is so expensive. I would get a job right now and save but my parents won’t let me because of COVID.

So now it got me thinking, what kind of government assistance programs can I get in California with me getting married? I know there’s the CALFRESH program, and the requirement is that you work 20 hours a week.

There’s another program which is called the emergency food assistance program, where the requirement is that me and my boyfriend make $2000 or less. I may need that if I can’t find a job!

I was wondering if there are more programs that can help me.

I know this is kind of taking advantage of the system, but at the same time, I’m really scared that I’m not going to be able to make enough money during this pandemic... and I need to move out because I’m going to school, and don’t want to infect my family.
