I am in the process of purchasing a new vehicle (which is super easy due to my 830 credit score...), except that during this process, I realized that I have a $40 bill in collections as of November 8, 2020. From what I can tell, the original debt is for a physical therapy place that I frequented when I hurt my back a couple of years ago. I always paid them on time as I was billed. When I stopped going, I paid all bills they sent me and I never heard from them again (as expected). Now all of a sudden I see a $40 bill has been turned over to collections. I've disputed this with Experian, but what other options do I have at this point?

I went to these guys for like 40 appointments, I paid everything they ever billed to me and have never been contacted since, so I had no clue there was even a potential unpaid balance. I still have not even been contacted by them or by this supposed collections agency either. What gives? What are my next steps here?

I intend to send a debt validation letter, but not sure if there are other things I should be doing to try and get this off my credit report.

EDIT: Should I even send a debt validation letter since they have literally never contacted me? The only reason I even know who holds the debt is because it's on my credit report.
