Like the title says, I just discovered this sub. Someone suggested it to me after complaining about my job.
My current situation: I work for a company that pays me very well. Top market value. I love my work, however a company this size usually has 2-3 of people like me, but here I’m the only one. The amount of work and demand is not realistic for one person. I’m constantly bringing my work stress home with me because I don’t know how I will finish all my projects on time. I always meet my deadlines but barely, and I have to work weekends/early mornings to make it happen.
I want to look for another job but I feel guilty because my company would be screwed without me. They’ll have to hire a team of consultants just to keep things moving at the pace they’re moving now with just me. I also feel like if we could just hire another person the workload would decrease and I wouldn’t be so stressed. But that’s easier said than done because someone with my skills usually requires headhunters.
I started entertaining other opportunities this week but none of them can come close to my current pay so I turned them down. After reading through this sub I’m wondering if that was the wrong decision.
Would you take a 15-20k pay cut for a happier work life?
