Got a letter today saying I owe over $10K in overpayments to the state of Louisiana because I was deemed “never eligible” for UI.

But according to the CARES act, if I wasn’t eligible for UI, I’d be eligible for self employed unemployment AND the $600 additional PUA.

Funny enough, I was getting $30 regular UI (because I AM self employed but worked for 1 month as a hostess). Self employed UI in LA was $107, so:

Either they owe me about $1900 in unpaid self employed UI

Or they owe me $0.

But I definitely don’t owe $10,740.

How does this happen? How do I fight it?

I’m still unemployed, in Massachusetts now staying with friends. My self employed work is non existent until crowds exist again.

I’m afraid my assets will get frozen? Should I secure them all now?
