I’m a physician, but am an intern and make ~$55k. I spend $1600 in rent at the moment, but I have no debt and am still able to save 15% in my Roth IRA and Roth 403(b), no match though☹️.

I kinda feel guilty about spending so much money in rent, but I live 4 blocks from the hospital, which will be super nice in the winter when it snows.

Right now, I justify my rent in my head because I’m still able to save 15% for retirement, save up for vacations, go out to eat, etc. But the main reason I justify is it because I know I’ll have a large income increase in 4 years and would be able to save as much money in 4 months as I can in 4 years right now. And if I had cheaper rent, I would just put that extra money into my 403(b).

Anyway. Should I move to the apartment across the street which is much older and would probably cost $500 less in rent, move to the suburbs and have a long commute for cheaper rent, or keep my apartment?
