I'm pretty sure most of what they ask me is illegal and the fact that they sent me a letter along the lines of "per our conversation, we will be charging you $x,xxx.xx on 08/01/2020. " which was not at all what was discussed shows they're real dicks.

The money owed is pandemic rent and the creditor, my apartment management lied to me about this and now refuses to talk to me. I don't have a home anymore, I'm still waiting on unemployment money, I lost my job, AND don't have a home anymore.

Anyone with experience with Collections Agencies probably is familiar with their asshole practices but this is my first time. I'm tired of them just putting me down and insulting me while I don't have a home and just want to fucking cry and scream back at them.

The balance is about $4k. They've already offered 1 settlement (maybe $200 lower) but I'm seeing more online that that's a chump offer.

What can I even ask in another phone call with them? I have a new full-time job now (making waaaay less then I did before, but I couldn't just twiddle my thumbs and wait for Unemployment money) and don't have the time to talk to them for an hour and only have them do some shady dance with me.

Please give any advice if you can. I'm tired of this year kicking me while I'm down.
