Bought a new house, adding on a irrigation meter so it cost half as much to water the yard as that meter is exempt from sewage fees. So I go to the township website and got the requirements. Requires a permit and inspection prior to them providing the meter (they give you a template and couplings only until it is approved).Since I've never done a permit I got scared and asked a couple pro plumbers for quotes. What I thought would be a $300-400 job came back at $1200 - 1800. I've priced the fittings out at $100 and the labor is a couple hours so I feel these quotes are rip offs, a third guy wanted me to pay a $100 fee just to have him give me a quote. So being the cheap person I am I am back to pulling my own permit and ordering my parts off supply house to get it done.I have confidence in my ability to do the work just never done a permit and scared about the inspecting process leading to huge unexpected cost or service interruptions. I feel like in the end the inspector will be in and out in 15 minutes and it'll go just fine, but i have that sinking feeling he'll come in and condemn the property, or shut off the water for some obscure code item like using white cable ties instead of black.Anyone gone through this before on their first plumbing permit? Any good lessons or traps to watch out for? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Ezg1e8
