I need some advice and I’m not sure where else to turn. My main reddit has people I know irl on it so I made this throwaway. I imagine some people in this area of reddit also have financial problems or know people who do.
I have $2000 of credit card debt I NEED to pay off ASAP and no current way to do it. Does anyone know any agencies or anything that can help?
Back story: I just finished law school this week. When I applied to the bar, two months ago, I was told I would have to pay off all my charge-offs before I could actually be licensed and everything else is otherwise okay. Luckily, for me at least.. not lucky for anyone else, the coronavirus lockdown happened in my state and the bar was postponed (which gives me to October rather than July to pay it all off). Prior to this, I actually paid off $2,000 of credit card debt on my own and it was “pay for deletion” (I paid in full and they deleted it off of my credit). Then, two weeks ago, I used my entire stimulus check for some of the other debt. I received $2,200 for a stimulus check because of kids also, and used the entirety to pay off some of the other credit card debt. Now I am left with two charge-offs totally 2000, which are: $1100 (which is almost-unfair because I actually only owed $700 and they added $400 after the charge-off), and $900.
Once these are paid off, I will have no other debt other than student loans. I have been closing all the open accounts after paying them off, so this cannot happen again. I originally had $6,600 of bad debt and now I am down to $2000 so I am trying. I also did not mean to get this much in debt... I had to pay off my mother’s funeral expenses by myself, and she had literally no money when she died (she was on SSI), and it really really hurt me. It caused most of the debt and then the interest on it and being unable to keep up.
I was wondering if anyone in this reddit has ever been through this much debt and had any advice to help. Or if anyone knew something that could help. I have sole custody of two kids, and it just sucks that now I can’t even be barred until this is resolved. I’m just over here prayinggggg for another stimulus payment to solve all of my problems.
