OK. I know toothbrushes are typically not BIFL, but I don't know where else to post this. I feel like I need to tell SOMEONE about my experience, and this subreddit makes the most sense.
My alien hand holding the toothbrush
I was an electric toothbrush user for a several years. I remember the first time I used one, and I was blown away by how clean my teeth felt. Loved that thing.
Fast forward 3 years, I needed to buy a new one. I was annoyed that the price had increased so I went back to using a cheap manual(?) toothbrush for a few weeks because I apparently wanted to be a masochistic, petulant child. My roommate heard me bemoaning the quality of my dollar store toothbrush and suggested I try one of his. Long story short, my mind has been blown.
I don't actually know what the proper name of the toothbrush is because it seems to have every possible adjective jammed into its title on Amazon, but it's made by Kent Brushes (or some licensed Korean firm?), a company which has apparently been around since the beginning of time.
Everyone has been laughing at me because I can't shut up about how amazing these brushes are. When I show people (yes I do this), they typically laugh and say something like "dude that looks like the first toothbrush ever made." And yes, it is literally the most simple looking toothbrush ever, but it the softest I have ever used, is comfortable in hand, and it still does a super good job of actually cleaning my teeth. I actually look forward to brushing my teeth now because it is such a pleasurable experience.
It's going on two months now with the same one (I am disgusting) and it still feels amazing. If I were to change every two months, that works out about 6 brushes a year which costs about $23. I would have absolutely scoffed at the idea of spending ~$4 on a single toothbrush in the past, but after using this I don't think I can use anything else. I am so used to most things being garbage that if I didn't get to use one myself I would never have thought that a "premium manual toothbrush" could possibly be worth it.
I feel like BIFL sort of inherently overlaps with being frugal in that people want to know that the crap they spend money on isn't literal crap and that are purchasing something of quality. While the product itself is not BIFL, this company's current iteration of toothbrush is very high quality. You are (most likely) going to need some form of a toothbrush for the rest of your life, so you may as well know what the good ones are. That's why I felt justified posting this; hopefully it's alright.
