Ever wondered how to create such a modern and contemporary planter but all you seem to find is the same old DIY design for most tutorials? I've found the perfect method on how to create LARGE and incharge planter bowls that will add an element of design to any space! As you've probably guessed I did use bowls to to get the bowl shape. But it's not so easy to find such large bowls to achieve a 15 inch in diameter or larger size. For months I've searched local stores and scanned through hundreds of websites and articals to find such a bowl! The secret is CAMBRO. Yes, Cambro. They're a professional catering and kitchen supply brand that have up to 60 quart buffet bowls! Amazon.ca and Amazon.com both have them. I do warn you though that they are not easy on the wallet! 💰💰💰. Here in Canada such plastic bowls from Cambro will cost you at least $80 and go up from there. Now, the simplest way to describe the actual planter making process is to: 1. Use vasaline to lube the inside of the enormous bowl and lube the outer walls and bottom of the smaller bowl that you'll place within the large one. 2. Mix porcelain cement and pour it into the large bowl. Only mix enough to fill half of the large bowl! 3. Place the smaller bowl inside the large and gently press down, at the same time vibrate the bowl. Place a heavy item inside the small bowl to keep it from rising. You will need something to keep againsed the small bowl so it stays centered. I used a 2ft piece of lumber and rested it across the entire large bowl. 4. Wait 24 hours to let the concrete dry. Flip the entire mold over and very gently vibrate the walls of the large bowl to release the planter from the bowl. Make sure to place a towel or something soft to catch the planter when it breaks free without chipping or cracking it. 5. Let it sit for another 24 hours then place the planter inside a room temperature tote of water completely submerging it. And let it sit for 5-6 days. This will strengthen the concrete once you pull it out and let it dry out finally. It also prevents the planter from cracking with temperature changes. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/39DBBJA
