Live in Providence, RI.

Live in a duplex. I've got the top floor, about 1200sqft. Downstairs neighbor has exact same layout, same everything.

Building was constructed in 2009. Propane heat, electric everything else. Everything is in good condition, with maintenance done regularly. Nothing obvious is wrong.

I'm somehow blowing through 7.8x as much propane as my downstairs neighbors. It's going to be costing me about $600 this month. An absolutely absurd amount.

I live alone, and work from home. All vents are closed, except for my bedroom (halfway) and my office. Only run heat in the morning to help me wake up, and after sunset if I'm still home and working; it's off all night, and off during peak sun hours. I get about twice as much sunlight as my downstairs neighbors.

It's a single-zone heat system. I have a Nest thermostat, along with Nest sensors in the two rooms I actually care about being adequate temperatures. Usually have it set to 64-65 degrees.

Downstairs neighbors have a normal thermostat, always set to about the same temperature, 24/7. One of them is always home, too.

What am I possibly doing wrong, here???

By all logic, I'm under the impression that I should be using less than them. I get more sunlight, I've got a more intelligent thermostat, and I'm probably benefiting from heat rising from their unit.

Confirmed that the correct tanks are being filled and invoiced appropriately. Confirmed that gauges are working correctly. Confirmed that piping is routed correctly. No propane smells of any kind.

Am I somehow wasting heat by having vents closed?

I've got a furnace in the attic, as opposed to my neighbors with a furnace in the basement. Is that an issue?

Is this my problem, or my landlords problem?

What else can I be doing?

Am I better off just getting a space heater for the two places I spend 99% of my time?
