Hi all,
So my therapist recently left the UHC network due to insufficient reimbursement rates. With a prior authorization from UHC, I can continue with my therapist at the network reimbursement rate.
My therapist is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC).
According to UHC, a mental health provider is a psychiatrist, licensed psychologist, licensed marriage and family therapist, or licensed clinical social worker.
UHC denied my continuity of care authorization application because an LPC does not fit the above. I plan to appeal because there is no reason to exclude LPCs from the definition, and every definition of an LPC I can find starts with being a mental health provider.
Has anyone ever gone through this or have an idea of how to go about the appeal other than just saying, “this is absurd?”
Edit: Just to clarify, UHC was covering therapy with this provider under my behavioral health plan prior to the change.
