Although it might seem uncomfortable to talk about your death with family members, including your children, tell them if you have already purchased a pre-need funeral plan. As a teenager, my mother told me she had paid for being cremated upon her death. Decades later when she died, I remembered this and simply had to find the mortuary she had purchased the plan from. After a few phone calls I found it and only had to pay a couple of hundred dollars for the mortuary to transport her body (she had moved about 100 miles away from the city where the mortuary was located). My step mother didn’t tell me or my step sister that she had a prearranged plan for her cremation. So when she died, we paid for the services. Only while going through her belongings did my step sister find out about it. Unfortunately, such plans are not refundable if they are not used.
