I drive a 2018 F150 v6, 24000 miles on it. A recent move, and now my commute is 130 mile round trip, daily, five times a week. 600 miles weekly. Aside from the fuel costs, I do not want to put that many miles on my truck, as I want to keep this one until the wheels fall off. I change my own oil, I use it to haul a dirt bike to Colorado every year, I love it, Otherwise, I would buy a nice hybrid sedan and be done with it.
Does it make sense to buy a commuter car? I'm looking at a Focus, 38HWY mileage, about $10,500 before taxes, with under 40,000 miles. I would not mind beating the hell out of this one.
I also might be changing to a job that is ten miles from my house, but that I would still put on about 1000-1500 miles monthly for work purposes, but that is much better than +/-2400 commute miles a month.
Looking at $600-800 annually for the insurance.
Any advice? I'm also thinking, just beat the hell out of this truck, and replace it around 110k.
