So I found out online that my property taxes haven’t been paid for this month. They were delinquent 12/10 so it is showing a penalty that I owe. I refinanced my home last October and currently have a new servicer.

I gave my servicer a call and was told they did not receive a tax bill for the property taxes so I needed to give the county a call. I called the office of the county and they are saying that because of the timing of my refinance the bill most likely went to my previous bank (am in California) and that I still owed the penalty. The person I spoke to also said I had to send a copy of the bill to my new servicer and that sometimes banks/servicer ask for a bill and sometimes they don’t. I currently trying to get a hold of my current servicer.

This is my first time refinancing a home and don’t know if this is just lack of foresight on my part or if the servicer should have asked for a bill from the county. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Servicer says they will be responsible for the penalty since the mortgage was under them at the time of the tax bill
