I feel like this is the kind of thing you might have read somewhere in passing but never really given it much thought. Last winter it felt like my bedroom would just never get warm enough. The issue was leaky windows. Since it would cost hundreds of dollars to get new windows, I let it be.
Fast forward to this winter. I found myself getting annoyed by the amount of sunlight the blinds were letting in so I bought some dark, heavy blackout curtains from Ikea. Turns out they do a really great job of keeping the bedroom warm! The heater starts a lot less frequently and I'm able to sleep comfortably without having to wear layers and socks. Also, don't forget to switch the direction of rotation on your ceiling fans. I'm actually looking forward to this month's power bill.
