My father made us a slab of black walnut that we want to use as a mantle. It looks like one of these, with one live edge and one straight edge: https://ift.tt/2NRDjwO we were gifted some awesome, heavy iron corbels that we would like to use. The problem - there are no mounting holes on the top of the corbels; only on the sides to mount them to the wall.We figure we'll install the corbels to the wall, then place the Black Walnut slab on top of them but we're trying to figure out how to secure the Walnut to the corbels. I'm envisioning a simple u-shaped bracket that goes underneath the corbel and screws into the wood, but I don't know what that's called / can't find it at our hardware stores.
