My SO is currently attending a year long graduate program. Once he’s finished he’s planning on seeking employment out of state. I am employed at about 30k/year atm. We spent the two years prior to this working at a total of about 80-90k/year. We have a pretty good amount saved for a down payment & have good credit scores. We don’t want to rent if we don’t have to but won’t be able to keep living where we are now once the year is up. Is it feasible to hope to get approved for a mortgage if my SO spends this year as a student and not working? Is there anything we should be doing in the meantime to better our chances? We’ve never had a mortgage before but have been approved for one in the past (while we were both working, but decided to go back to school & not buy)
