So, I got charged a very large sum of money from an ambulance ride that I didn’t need, nor consent to. I’m not sure where to ask about this, so I figured i’d try asking in this subreddit!

A little backstory on the situation: I went out to a rave one night a couple of weeks ago, drank way too much and ended up blackout drunk, very incoherent and unmanageable. I normally don’t drink liquor, but the person I was with brought it and I just overdid it, I guess. My friends are pissed/tired/worried or whatever because I threw up in their car and call an ambulance, presumably because they didn’t want to deal with me throwing up in their car again. But they absolutely could’ve drove me, as it wasn’t that serious. I wasn’t dying.

The ambulance takes me, I don’t remember a single thing, I’m stuck laying in a hospital bed until like 4am (I got there probably at around 11pm or 12am). They didn’t do anything for me besides give me apple juice when someone finally came to come get me.

I don’t feel like I should have to pay all of this money for an ambulance ride that I didn’t and couldn’t consent to because I was far too drunk, I didn’t even call it for myself. Honestly, even if I was dying, I would’ve rather been left there to die than pay this bill. Not to sound too dramatic, lmfao. The ER bill hasn’t even came yet, I’m not sure if they’re sending it separately or if it’s included in the ambulance fees. They didn’t do anything but leave me in the hallway, how much could they possibly charge me?

I genuinely do not know what to do about this, I can’t pay this and don’t feel like I should pay it. Side note: I do have insurance (Blue Cross) but I’ve read online that in New York (that’s where i’m from), they can completely deny you all medical coverage if you’re under the influence of alcohol. It’s probably true, and if that’s the case, what am I paying for insurance for? Not like this is going to happen all the time or even more than once, but shouldn’t insurance that you PAY FOR in case of EMERGENCY situations cover it no matter what you did? I mean, I know for a fact that I’ve paid far more for the insurance so far than this bill, so why would they deny this just because alcohol was involved?

What should I do?
