I'm 22 and in the military. I'm currently going to college and in the first quarter into my sophomore year for business(management&leadership + HR) and I'll be deploying in january for a year. I'll come back having earned about $56,000 all untaxed with very minimal spending while I'm in country. I can't imagine I'd be spending more than $250 a month on all my bills+entertainment.
I currently have roughly $17,000 in my retirement Roth IRA retirement through the army and $40,000 in my savings account. I'm going to put about half the money I'm earning on deployment into retirement and need advice on what to do with all of my liquid cash. I tried investing in stocks which hasn't helped me much so I'd love for some wisdom on how I can make my money work for me while I'm away. There's no reason I'd need to touch any of it for at least a year considering I'll have a very steady cash flow on deployment.
