In the spirit of DIY, I (a 33 year old female who enjoys camping but has never lived alone or in the woods before, and has a desk job) is considering moving into a 450 sq foot cabin alone. Since I have no experience, I appreciate the advice of anyone with experience. Some of my concerns are...-It has electricity and is insulated, but I worry about high heating bills during the winter when the temps go below freezing.-There is a fireplace but I don’t like how some fire places push smoke into the house. I also don’t have experience starting fires on my own. Are fireplaces really an efficient and safe way to heat a house?-There are neighbor’s a few minutes walk away, but no one right next door. If I have an issue, I worry I’ll have no one to ask for help.-I’ll be responsible for plowing snow in the winter on my own.-There was a musty smell inside the cabin when I visited it. It could be that the windows haven’t been opened in a while, or it could be something worse like mold. I’m not sure whether this is a cause for concern. What draws me to the cabin is that I really want to live in a woody area, and the cabin is beautiful. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/34ewgF7
