So I have been at this company for over 2 years now as a complex property insurance broker. In the insurance world there's 3 major Brokerage firms and I work for one of those 3. Prior to this gig I worked for another one of the big 3 for 3 years so in total going on 5+ years experience.

I came over making $75K and raise wise am essentially still making the same. Since the beginning of this year I've been pushing for a promotion from Associate Broker to Lead Broker as I already have been doing the duties on many of the accounts I'm on, I finally got word that it's going to happen.

My conflict is what pay I should push for. A co-worker of mine joined the company 2 months prior to me and she was coming over with 7 years of experience, she came in as a lead broker and they gave her $110K. Now I know I don't have as much experience however I'll now be formally in the same position as her.

My expectation is they will offer me $85K-$95K and ideally I would like to get to $100K. While I believe you should be paid for the job and not experience, I know it's a slim chance they give me the $110K my coworker gets as this is an internal hire and not external which in the Insurance world means the jump isn't normally as large.

Do I have anything to lose by asking for $100K+ or even $110K? I plan on saying that I understand what others have started out at in this role and I'd like to be at the same level.

Any advice is appreciated thanks!!
