I'm in a very confusing situation right now, hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.

I've been working on my credit score and have maintained it in the low 810s-820s for a couple of years now. You can imagine my surprise when I received a notification from Credit Wise saying it had dropped 96 points. I'm now at 708. WTH happened?!

"Your oldest account is no longer open." What the hell? I checked all my cards - nope. Nothing closed on me. I went to get my free annual credit report and now have access to my TransUnion credit report (what Credit Wise pulled from) and can see something really strange with an ooooooold Macy's charge card. (picture here)

I opened a Macy's store card in January of 2008. I closed it in August of 2014. On the comments it says: "Account closed by consumer; inactive account; closed" but each month, up until July of 2019, the rating says "OK". Last Date Updated says 8/31/2019.

Does this mean that even though my account was closed in 2014, it's been reporting to TransUnion that my status is OK, and now, finally, it thinks I've closed it for good? That's literally the only thing I can fathom. I haven't closed any other credit card/charge accounts. And this is my most oldest account with the most recent "Date Updated" date.

Now, for the fix...

Under any other circumstance, I would want to contact Macy's/TransUnion and say WTF, this has BEEN closed since forever, you better update your records...BUT, seeing how much weight the oldest account has had on my credit score (NINETY SIX POINTS!) I'm wondering if it's at all possible to ask Macy's to reopen/reactivate this account and hope the score fixes itself.

What should I do? What would you do? How long will this take to heal? Taking a look at my report, the next oldest account I have was opened in September of 2009.

tldr; credit score dropped 96pts possible due to an account that had already been closed 5 years ago?
