I am at a loss as I have never encountered this before. I just quit my side job at a fast food chain, and my store manager had asked me for my address to send my “final pay”. I assumed (as I had no reason not to) this was my final paycheck, in the form of a check, as thats what every other job I’ve ever had has done.

I just checked the mail, its been 6 days, and I had this... “Global Cash Card”? I’ve never even seen one of these before. My name is hand written on the forms, with instructions on scanning the forms and emailing them to “paycheckissues@(job).com” and a phone number to activate the card. Honestly, seeing some weird card in the mail and a bunch of forms, I almost thought it was one of those weird scams where companies mail you fake cards. I was going to throw it away til I realized the company I’d recently quit was on that email it said to send it to.

Is this even a legal way of sending a final paycheck? I had gotten all my paychecks prior through direct deposit, and I know final paychecks are usually in the form of physical checks. I didn’t consent to getting a “cash card” instead of my actual paycheck. And the paperwork with it says I have to pay a fee to get the card converted to cash.

I texted the store manager asking what it was, and if I could get my actual paycheck now since I have no interested in some weird cash card. But frankly, I’m pretty furious and annoyed. Please someone enlighten me, I’ve seriously never seen something like this done automatically as a final paycheck.
