Looking for some advice on a sinking 6x6 deck post for a 2nd story deck attached to my house. I’ve been replacing the decking with composite and decided to fix this post which has sunk about 2 inches. Not sure when it happened as we bought the house two years ago and it was already like that. I dug down and found the footer, which appears to be a preformed 12x 12 x 8 inch concrete form with a metal rod going into the bottom of the post. I plan on jacking up the beam the post is supporting and then cutting off the bottom of the post. From there I’ll attach a Simpson post base and get the post out of the dirt, but I’m wondering if I can take the easy way out and use a 12” diameter sonotube concrete form on top of the existing concrete footer or should I just remove the existing footer and keep digging down and sink the pier another foot or two lower. I’m not sure how low I’ll have to go to get to undisturbed soil as this is right next to the house. Also, I’m in the Pacific Northwest and our frost line is only a foot or so down. Below are pics.Any thoughts?https://ift.tt/2MLfsQu to mention, that tubing attached to the post is for electrical cable going to my detached garage. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/33mwCdm
