My grandmother gave my father a set of furniture that had belong to her. In it there were two night stands and a long dresser with a large mirror. When I was around 10 years old my dad handed over the night stands and kept the dresser for himself. Of course a kid doesn't know how to keep a crafted piece of furniture in good standing! They suffered dings, scratches, water rings, and all sorts of abuse.I moved out of state, dragging the old night stands along with me. They stare at me every time I go to bed as if crying "help me, don't just stand there do something." So I finally got off my butt and decided that they needed to be sanded bare, stained, and re-coated with clear polyurethane. There's was a vain aspect as well; I've grown to dislike the color and finish of the stands. I'm not a fan of more middle toned wood finishes such a walnut, mahogony, and cherry. I switched them from their original mahogany-ish semi-gloss with bronze handles to a matte ebony with silver handles. It took two days, a lot of mistakes, and I made a mess, but I love the final results! Next week I'm going to do the same to the other one for a new look to an old matching set.https://ift.tt/2Kn7yeI via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Kow3It
