My fiancee and I are discovering the evils joys of wedding planning and the wedding industry in general. We initially wanted a wedding on a small budget (as I can't justify spending 30K+ on one) but one thing we're noticing is all (wedding) photographers are REDICULOUSLY expensive. An avergae 8 hour session is running between $3500-$4000 and I just do not feel comfortable dropping that much for someone doing roughly half a day's work. I'm not sure if it's our location (Austin, TX) or why photographers in general are just that pricey. There are other people cheaper, but my fiancee is REALLY convinced that spending the $4K on someone will be worth it for quality photos (not saying she's wrong, but just think we can get the same quality for cheaper). I know people will say "it's just the industry" or "it's your special day" but I still think we can do better price wise. Ideally, something around 1/4th of that would be way better.

Are there any recommendations for a good alternative to this (good price and quality photographer or just general idea)? Any help would be awesome!
