The draft version of the 2019 Form 1040 is a weird blend of pre-postcard nostalgia and post-postcard angst.
Some of the changes include:
- The income summary has returned to the first page. Now instead of a 1/2 pager, page one is now roughly 2/3 of a page.
- The signature section has returned to page 2
- Third party designees no longer need to be appointed on Schedule 6 if they are not the paid preparer. The old method has returned.
- Adjustments to income from Schedule 1 now display on line 8a, instead of just being lumped in to AGI (the form now actually foots).
- Capital gains have moved from Schedule 1 to Page 1.
- There are no references to Schedules 5 or 4. Draft instructions for Schedules 1-3 state that the Schedules 4-6 are obsolete and will not be used for 2019.
