Hello Reddit. My parents were not great with finances and we're constantly borrowing money from family. My parents forced me to go to an expensive college which my mother also attended at the same time. They found getting student loans they could get extra each semester to pay for school. My sophomore year in college my Father took out a parent plus loan to pay for my schooling. However he decided to keep the money and pay the mortgage and other debt.... I was kicked out of school because I couldn't pay for the semester. Then my dad kicked me out of the house because I couldn't pay rent but never set that expectation and always told me to just focus on school....

This forced me to bounce between a few friends houses and cousins... I adventually moved in with my boyfriend (now husband). He encouraged me to go back to school and finish up and he helped me get financing and working part time. Well 8 years later my father has not been paying the parent plus loan and kept deferring it.

He calls and harasses me to take care of it and I didn't even know he actually took out the loan. When I was kicked out of school he said he got denied the credit .. I called and they wouldn't talk to me as it's a parent plus loan and his name is on it only. My parents over the 8 years had gotten divorced, yada, yada and his new wife is getting her credit hit... The loan is triple the original amount because he's not made payments. I never saw a dime of it and was kicked out of school.

He now expects me to take it over and wants to take me to court over it. Is there anything he can do to force me? Am I the asshole? Can he legally transfer it to me because he took it out and said it was for my schooling? I've checked it is a parent plus loan and my name is not attached but it was taken for for my schooling. However I was not a signer.

Tl;dr, dad took out parent plus loan, kept the money and trying to stick me with triple the bill. Can he do this?
