My parents (my Mum and Step Dad) have got themselves into financial trouble and as the title suggests have literally run out of money. For the past few months they have been living on their credit cards and have now gotten themselves into considerable debt in doing so. I just found out yesterday they also haven't paid rent on their town home for the past 6 months and I fear they will be kicked out shortly. They also have personal bills and missed car payments from the past couple of months piling up as well. Currently they live in Wichita, Kansas. Both parents are in their early 70's and are retired with no income coming in. As of right now I don't have exact numbers of just how in debt they are. I'm working on trying to get that information from my parents.

Another thing to note is that they are both US permanent residents, but are still naturalized Australian citizens. They moved back to the US just over 5 years ago in hopes my Step Dad would find another job here, but obviously that hasn't worked out. Neither of my parents had a retirement plan. My Step Dad working was their plan. Now what I would ideally like is for them to somehow move back to Australia as they are getting up there in age and they have no way of paying for any medical services here in the US if they did in fact get sick or have a serious illness. But of course I know that costs money. This is a separate area I also need help in understanding in terms of what social programs are available to them in Australia and what their options are if they somehow where able to get back to Australia. Also weather or not this is a good idea at all. I haven't lived in Australia for the past 15 years myself.

I am Australian, but also work here in the US. I am sponsored by a company providing me a work visa. I currently work and live in New York City. Whilst I do ok financially for my self I in no way can take on the cost of completely paying for two adults. Especially in New York City. Either way that would send me completely broke.

As of right now I am certain they will have to file for bankruptcy here in the US. However I am not sure what all is involved with that course of action and what else that leads to. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
