I wanted to bring another contender to the big white sneaker war. I had recently seen them in my store and was shockingly surprised by the Good Man Brand Edge Sneaker from afar and up close its a pretty good alternative to the Common Projects Achilles Low (which I am a big fan of and own in many colors and other silhouettes). When i saw them i was like the sub should see these. Funnily my brother came home with them and I knew it was fate i had to make a post. He is a fan of the shoes because of the price and look and cant blame him

WHAT WE DO

When you look good and feel good, you’re ready to focus on more important things: Living life, working hard, helping others. Our goal is to create clothes that bring out the best in you.

HOW WE DO IT

Comfort.
Unmatched ease of movement is engineered into every garment, from 4-way stretch chinos to a sport coat that feels like your favorite sweatshirt.

Craft.
Think Italian leather, Japanese cotton, skilled artisans shaping shirt collars and high-tops by hand.

Design.
We’re inspired by the finer things in life, from strong coffee to sharp blazers to midcentury furniture—and we channel those references into our work.

WHO WE ARE

Tom, Dean, Scott, Russell. Our co-founders bring decades of design experience, a propensity for big ideas, and a shared vision of men’s lifestyle that’s more than what you see on the surface.

WHY NOT YOU

We want to inspire people everywhere to do good. Good Man Brand enthusiastically supports the Why Not You Foundation, which is involved in creating real and lasting change in the world by motivating, empowering and preparing today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders.  In 2017 and 2018, we have contributed over $500,0000 to the Foundation's good work, we are passionate about our mission and strive to pay it forward in the years to come.  This is just the beginning.

WHAT GOOD WILL YOU DO TODAY?

Be Good.

#LeadInspireLive

From the Nordstrom website about the brand

Athlete Russell Wilson and his partners launched Good Man Brand with designs on making a difference in the world and bringing out the best in all men. The brand's motto is "Lead. Inspire. Live." Good Man Brand runs the gamut from sharp blazers to streamlined sneakers, and, for each item purchased, the company donates $3 to the Why Not You Foundation, which works to encourage and empower children.

I first came across this brand because of their clothing which I really love. The main thing that they boast about their clothings is their fit. Their clothing fits an athletic fit or a stocky figure, which i definitely am. They have some of my favorite tees and so for those men who have a football or body builder physique I cant recommend their clothes enough. Also tend to do trendy looks as well.

Enough about their clothes so about 2-3 years I came across their sneakers and at first they didn't really catch my eye just kind of passed of as nothing big deal. And then my first exposure with them would be their Legend Lo Top Sneaker about a year ago. Again my brother bought a them because he wanted a white sneaker but couldn't swallow the price of paying so much for them as a Common Projects. The Legend is more of a Stan Smith/CP Retro silhouette which i never liked after having the Achilles because of the slimmer look. So this year we got the Edge Sneaker

Specs

Straight from the website

As refined as they are relaxed, our low-tops are ready to tackle whatever your day has in store. Like all our shoes, they're made by hand in Marche, Italy, using the finest Italian Nappa leather. Real leather means real luxury and real durability.

Premium Italian Nappa leather

Calf skin leather lined so soft, socks are truly optional.

Premium, Italian-made Margom rubber sole.

Tonal metal eyelets and waxed cotton laces.

Expertly handcrafted in Italy.

So they are boasting with the sneakers that it has Nappa leather and a Margorm sole. And from playing with it and trying it on it definitely does. And also comes with waxed cotton laces which is another plus too.

Fit

I wear a 10.5 in most sneakers (ex: Adidas,NB,Nike, Vans) And a 10.5 in most dress shoes (ex Allen Edmonds, Too Boot). So when it came to the Good Man Brand Edge Sneaker I went with a size 10. Which is also the same size I wear in Achilles (43/10). They seem to have a similar fit to the Achilles because of the longer look and slim profile. But the great thing Good Man Brand does compared to Common Project is that they come in half sizes which amazing for those who have a hard time with fit because of the whole sizes that CP does. In my opinion go with your Achilles sizing, but for the ones that are not comfortable with CP full sizing try the half size it could work better for you. I have read over the years that people didn't find CPs comfortable because of the sizing so this can be the perfect shoe for you. Including for people with wide feet

Comparison

Pros:

  • The price which is $198 for those who cant wait or find a good deal on CPs which is $411 and when on sale roughly $260 - $300
  • The half sizing
  • Nappa leather which is soft to the touch
  • Margrom sole
  • They look very scarily alike each other

Cons:

  • Only con I could really find was the logo branding on the tongue and on the heel
  • Toebox to be very nit picky it wasnt as slim but this just me being anal tbh
  • Besides that nothing else

I cant really hate this sneaker they did a great job with it and its kind of sad to say because I am a huge fan of Common Projects and all their shoes. I think its a great affordable white sneaker, I still love my CPs but cant really defend CPs to much besides that they are the most popular and one of the first.

Based on my brothers testimony they are comfortable sneakers and top quality. And from trying them on they fit good and are comfortable. The pair of Legends he owns have also been holding up after a year with no complaints. Since they are new they just need their break in time but have no doubt they will get better with wear.

Overall, this is probably one the best Common Project alternatives out there

Best Part

They are on sale right now at Nordstrom for $131.90. Until August 4 or until supplies last, and also come in Vachetta, and Black.
