She has worked at her job as an optometrist for years and worked hard to get where she is at. She was diagnosed with leukemia about 4 months ago and about a week or so after that, her job offered her a huge promotion to move to a city 4 hours away and run a lot more stores in a bigger city.

I’ve been supporting her financially because I make enough money to cover both of our bills even though we don’t live together.

Some family told me she could do something at our local social security administration and it would be more consistent money than her working because they put her on LoA until the doctor clears her but the boss still lets her work 4 days per 2 weeks so she could keep distract herself and still be making at least some sort of money. Also it would help with her medical bills, or so I’m told.

I told my girlfriend about it but she doesn’t want to do it because she worked so hard to be where she’s at. The store literally can’t function as well without her. Is there any alternatives I can tell her about besides social security so she won’t feel like she’s losing all the hard work she did at her job? Or would her job hire her back after she beats cancer and she can get off social security?

Thank you in advance for any replies
