Hi so I am graduating from university in a few weeks and my parents have been generous enough to allow me to return home and stay there (for as long as I want because I have an Indian family and they want me to live in that home forever). I live in the Bay Area and therefore living at home for a while is probably a good idea because I can’t afford rent atm. I have a paid internship at a startup lined up for the summer that will pay 25 an hour and according to them possibly turn full time after September. Since there is no guarantee my old lab mentor had offered me a job in September making 25 an hour if I don’t have a different position.
At the moment I have about 2000 in savings and invested about 3000 in various stocks. I’ve paid about half of my student loan off myself already and my grandfather recently offered to pay off the rest so I am extremely lucky in this way that I won’t have any debt starting out. I won’t have many expenses once the summer starts because I’ll be living at home so I think I’ll be able to save about 80% of my internship income.
I really value my privacy and also hate that I’ll have an hour and a half commute each way from home and so I would like to move out as soon as financially responsible. Rent per month on a shared apartment in my area is around 2000 so what might be some saving and income goals I should set as a prerequisite to moving out responsibly?
