So I'm an Icelandic guy marrying a woman from the US, currently in the Air Force and we are going to live in the US while she finishes her service. We really want to buy a house, and according to our calculations, we should be taking home around $6K per month. We think a $1800/mo mortgage would do fine, so around a $300K house. The car on the other hand we're not so sure about. We'd like to get a decent one and we'd be happy to take a loan on a car as well. I'm thinking what our limits really are to such a mortgage and car loan, pocketing $6K per month after taxes. Anyone here who knows the US real estate/car market well enough to provide a nice answer? Something two mid-twenties people can do with their income. It's bound to raise in the coming years due to experience and education on both parts. I'm a System Administrator for an IT company in Iceland and will be working remotely, she's a BMET for the Air Force. I'll try to answer any questions in as much detail as I can, should more information be needed.
Never posted here before, so I'm just trying to give as much information as possible to paint a clear picture of who we are without getting too personal.
