Both companies are in the same sector. Some info about me. I have an accounting degree, and have started my masters in business admin management, I was a manager before in a different sector. I love this sector and I plan on staying in it as long as possible as I go to work every day with happiness in my heart and it is not a stressful job. Hours are great and I have the ability to move up as high as I want.
A few facts:
Company B is 18 miles from my home and I rotate saturdays. I love my coworkers and we are like family. I know my clients and they trust me so this will be a benefit in my new promoted position.
Company C is 9 miles from home. And there will be no saturdays. I don’t know those employees and the clients.
Company B and C are set to merge by the end of the year so by the end of the year it’ll be just Company X.
I currently work at B company. I was just promoted after being there since July of last year. It’s a small pay increase from $16.88 to $18.32. I was honestly surprised it was so small because of the increase in responsibilities that I will be trained for (not sure when I will go through training as the only hold the classes every few months but my pay increase will take affect May 12th). Although the bonuses will increase, I do not have the amount of the increase because it varies on some factors.
A manager of the company (company C) we are merging with reached out to me for a position that is a step higher from the job I just promoted to. This will be a position that is one step below becoming a manager which is my goal. I interviewed and got chosen to take the position. I will be receiving an offer in the next few days from this company. The offer will be for $55k a year.
I haven’t been in a situation like this before. These are my questions.
When I receive the offer, is it ok to ask to let me think about it? (To approach my current manager)
If it is, how do I approach my current manager about the offer from company C, to see what my current employer might be able to offer? Obviously this is almost a $10 hourly pay increase (I’m using an online paycheck calculator, so please if I’m wrong let me know) with an increase in bonuses.
If I talk to my manager about the offer and my current employer decides to match it, how do I go about declining the offer from company C?
If company B cannot match, how do I go about leaving company B to start at company C, in a polite and respectful way?
TLDR: Work for Company B, just promoted, small pay increase $16.88 to $18.32. Company C is merging with Company B. Company C offered $55k a year, higher position. Can I ask for time to think about offer? How do I approach Company B to see if they will match offer? If company B can’t how do I leave respectfully. If company B matches how do I decline offer?
