I'm gathering that my wife and I have more or less capped out income-wise in the smallish Southeastern city we live in. I make mid-60s, she makes mid-40s. We're actually doing quite well for our area, but our area has no satellite larger city--Charlotte is the closest, at around a hundred miles away.

But speaking more generally, is it financially a good idea/worth considering to uproot and move? Reddit seems to be full of young professionals pulling down 100k+ in HCOL areas but basically no one here makes that kind of money. Speaking generally as a small-city resident, do I actually have it better than I realize living in a LCOL area, even if I've topped out? Should I stop being wistful for a more international community?
