Hey DIY’ers. So I’m repairing my ailing front porch. It’s two slabs of concrete and the winters are taking their toll.At the joint between the slabs it’s slowly disintegrating and turning to sand/concrete dust:http://bit.ly/301GBmr getting the run around from contractors, I came across a great deal on interlock stones that I’ve been picking up and systematically cleaning:http://bit.ly/2V1mu45 http://bit.ly/301GDuz my plan is to rent a bin, jackhammer out the concrete (which is 10’ x 12’), take out the stairs... extend the patio 4 feet to make it 10’ x 16’.I want to do a 6x6 pressure treated retaining course on the outside of the patio. On top of that retaining course I’ll be putting a PT fence and gate for the patio. What is advised for securing the 6x6 ? I’m thinking a 4” concrete footing around the perimeter of the patio. Then I can use wedge anchors countersunk into the 6x6 to ensure the gravel/sand/ patio stone and polymetric sand don’t blow it out. Also, are concrete stairs usually solid or partially hollow? I’m dreading removing the ones I have. Thanks so much! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2V3hEDJ
