My mom knows very little English. She is asking me to call the IRS because her last tax refund was applied to unpaid taxes that she believes is from my dad. These taxes were accrued while they were married and filing together. This was the first year she filed separately. They are still legally married. Now, she is asking me to call them and say it’s not her that owes the money but him and that she should not be held liable for that. I have no knowledge of how to even fight this or discuss this with the IRS.
Just as a personal note, I hate doing this stuff. Having to argue for my parents and be the one that gets the brunt of the response and humiliation because they’re usually the ones at fault.
I’ve told her that I can’t call because I’m at work during those hours but she’s still expecting me to. I would just like to know in case if there is anything possible I could do.
